10 Last Minute Father’s Day Gifts Rated by My Dad

Last Thanksgiving my father — prompted by no one might I add — let my brother and me know that he does not accept homemade gifts anymore. I thought it was hilariously rude because it just so happens that I used to be the queen of homemade DVD picture slideshows. However, we haven’t gotten him a homemade gift since 2015, so I was also momentarily perplexed…but then I got it. Allow me to explain what dad actually was saying, “I’m gonna need a better gift for Christmas, please and thank you.” RUDE!

So, what do you give a man that deserves the world…and KNOWS IT? Over the years I’ve noticed that gifts he doesn’t like end up hidden in plain sight for years, for example: an unopened DVD copy of White Men Can’t Jump from 2008, a dusty book about Rugby bought in New Zealand from 2011, an expired bottle of Apple Moscow Mule mix from 2018 still in the garage refrigerator…you get the idea. But the things has liked — a Bevel shaving kit and the latest PowerBeats — he talks about EVERY SINGLE DAY. The difference between the two types of gifts? He blatantly asked for some and we tried to guess the others. Moral of the story — now we just ask him what he wants for his birthday, Christmas, and Father’s Day.

So from my dad to yours, here are 10 last minute Father’s Day gift ideas rated by my father + 3 honorable mention ideas he gives a 15/10!

I joke around and poke fun at my dad but I’m honestly feeling blessed to spend another Father’s Day with him, given the way people like him — people like us — are treated in this nation. Sending my love to all the fathers and those who’ve lost fathers in this time.

As always #BlackLivesMatter.

Yours Truly and Truly Me,

Maya G.
